"So, let me get this straight.  You're a non-corporeal, former human who evolved beyond the need for a body along with two other scientists, and now you want to offer me a chance to become a girl and live the life I want in exchange for earning money for you three working as a model, actress and spokesperson."

"Correct."

Lund stared at the ball of light that he'd been talking to for the last hour in the meeting room at the Oak Park law offices of Charles Quick.  "And as non-corporeal entities, you need money why, again?"

The glowing form sighed and pulsed. "Oh, it's quite simple. As non-corporeal entities we can exist outside the normal human timeline and see the future possibilities.  We see that no one took the notes we left seriously, and everyone thinks that we all ran off together. They dumped all our research notes and labeled us as kooks in the serious scientific journals.  They shut down our lab and sold off our equipment.  We cannot help others evolve, so we need to rebuild everything.  As non-corporeal entities, we cannot have bank accounts or even keep cash in a mattress."

"Well, if you reveal yourself to the world, wouldn't people just give all they have to ascend to the next level of existence?"

The glowing entity sighed, "People are generally afraid to give up their bodies and live forever in a non-linear reality.  And those who are ready, those who are attuned to the possibility, they generally have given up most of their material goods and live in meditation and prayer.  They don't have the cash to invest."

"And who is paying for this room in this lawyer's office we're using?" I looked around at the lavishly appointed meeting room.

"The lawyer, Chuck Quick.  He's our legal front and wants us to succeed so he can join us."

"So, he's on board?"

"Oh, yes, he was my attorney before I became non-corporeal.  I visited him and knew the answer to every question he could think to ask me about myself, so he's a believer."

"And he can't fund your process?"

"Lund, it took us 40 years of building, testing and research to do this.  It's all gone.  These people don't want to wait that long for us to recreate this, and no one will give Chuck that much of a loan for a secret science project."

"Okay, okay, I get that.  But why me?"

"Ah, yes, well, funny thing about that. Since we now exist outside the timeline, we can see all possible outcomes as they currently exist based upon all te decisions everyone makes up to this point.  We discovered that, besides bank robbing, the quickest way to make a lit of money is to become famous."

"You could make anyone famous, why me?  Why give me my wish?"

"Because we looked at all the possibilities in the timeline, as you know because we exist outside the normal flow of time, and found that by granting the wish of someone like you brought more loyalty and agreeability to the terms of our arrangement.  That, and... well... our spellcaster is only experienced in a few spells."

Lund took the contract and skimmed it again. "So, you turn me into a woman, and in return I give you half my earnings for twenty years while you act as my agent making sure I get modeling and acting jobs."

The light shimmered, "Exactly."

"And, what if after ten years I don't want to give you half my earnings?"

"Check on page 6.  If you don't comply, we have the option to turn you into an eighty year old man and drop you in a nursing home."

"And if you don't keep your promise, if after the twenty years is up you turn me male again, what happens then?"

"Lund, dear man, what would we gain by that?  If you are as successful as a teen star as I-"

"Teen Star?"

"Didn't read very carefully, did we?  Yes, now, trying to launch a career of a 30 year old from scratch would be hard.  Starting a 10 year old off as a model and getting her some acting jobs is very easy, especially if she's as beautiful as you're going to be."

Lund squirmed a bit in his seat. "Where will I live as a ten year old?  Do I have to go back to school?  I wasn't expecting to be ten again."

"Page 24, our lawyer and his wife, Joan, will act as legal guardian for you and your brother until you turn 18.  Our group, NC Talent, will be your agency until you are 30."

"I'd have a brother?l"

The entity twinkled, "Yes!  His name will be Jacob once our spellcaster finishes changing the young lady we recruited to become Jake."

"Okay, so do I get to meet these people before they become my parents for 8 years?  I don't want to be at their mercy if they're nuts."

"Oh, yes, if you think you're interested still, they are here in the building.  The front half of this building is offices, but the back half is a 4 bedroom house with a nice yard.  They have a golden retriever.  Joan's a sweetheart and would give the world the shirt off her back.  She has an education degree, so she'll be homeschooling her newly adopted children, though really she'll just be giving you refresher courses in preparation for your high school graduation exam, SAT, ACT, etc.  She'll be your stage mom, and Chuck will help.  He's a patent attorney who only works part-time.  He wrote several major patents in his time, and some of those clients paid him by giving him a 10 percent share on the patents.  He lives a comfortable life based on those shares, and he works only on projects he selects.  He will work a your business manager through NC Talent.  Very, very smart guy."

Lund leaned forward, "What's the cover story for our adoption?"

"Oh, Chuck and Joan will have been made your guardians through the will of a couple that will have supposedly adopted you and Jake when you were babies.  Their ficticious records were planted six months ago in Florida where you two supposedly grew up until your adoptive parents died.  Your adoption records are also about to be planted once you sign the agreement.  The records will be sealed in a way that implies they were sealed by the U.S. Marahal's office, implying that you and your adoptive parents were in witness protection."

"Wow. That's damn thorough.  How did you pull that off?"

"Chuck is a very smart man.  Those patents that he holds a percentage of are things like search engine algorhythms, cellular phone technology, combat equipment and weapons, and simple items you use around the house every day.  Chuck knows people behind-the-scenes everywhere."

Lund sighed and leaned back in tufted, bugundy leather chair, scanned a few more pages of the contract and then looked up at the entity.  "Well, let's go meet Mom & Dad.

--

The Quick's house was actually part of the two story brick building that was the law office, but there was only one door between the two halves of the structure, and it was hidden in Chuck's office. The house portion of the structure was hidden from the front by fences and tall hedgerows on either side of the structure.  The house itself faced a residential road behind Main Street.  Only from the driveway that ran up the side of the building could you tell it served two purposes.

Lund was lead by Roger, which was the only name the non-corporeal entity had given, outside and up the gravel driveway to the house side of the structure.  It looked like a nice brick colonial with a wide porch that had a table and chairs on it and a porch swing.  Since there was no "backyard", the side of the property opposite the driveway had a privacy fence around it and Lund could see the top of a patio umbrella poking over the top.

Chuck and Joan Quick were nothing hospitable and warm at the front door.  Both were in their mid-fifties, graying hair (her blonde, his black) blue eyes and neither of them were a hair over 5'5".  the four bedroom home was filled with warm wood paneling and trim, and the house seemed to smell of something being baked when Lund entered.

They gave Lund a tour of the house, showing him the bedroom that would be decorated to be his, and then they went to the extra bedroom that doubled as the house's library.  Floor to ceiling book cases lined the room and were filled with texts on every religion, every philosophy and human biology & chemistry.  From that room alone, Lund realized that these people were serious about ascending to the next level of becoming beings of pure thought and energy.  They would no doubt do everything Roger and the other entities needed to reach their goal, and that included pushing Lund to make it to stardom.

When they sat down in the living room, Lund directed the important question at Roger.

"So, of all things you could do to make money, why did you chose to give two people their transgender wish and make them stars?  With a spellcaster, you have unlimited options."

"Ah, yes, well, first off, it's hard to find a spellcaster who will donate his or her time to the future goal of becoming a non-corporeal entity.  They are generally pretty powerful and not interested in what we have to offer."

"Okay, what else?"

"Secondly, the spellcaster we did find who was interested is a bit of a... well, bit of an intermediate.  He's only got a few spells down pat, and he's only moderately powerful.  We actually will age regress you back to age ten as you, and then change your gender and appearance.  Each phase will take about 2-3 days as his spells are powerful enough to get the job done, but not instantaneously."

"Okay, still not seeing the 'why' in all this. Yes, transgendering, or changing someone's appearance, is something your spellcaster knows how to do.  But why not have him learn something new?"

The light of Roger sighed, as if it was either annoyed or hestitant about sharing the answer.

"Simply put, my friend Lund, giving someone their deepest, most impossible wish, makes them the most grateful and motivated.  I could make someone else into a celebrity, but that can be trying sometimes. They might end up s seeing it as a curse and not a gift.  But you, my friend, will not only be getting the gift of fame and fortune, you will get to be female AND live a longer life. It's almost more than any other gift we could give any other person.  I've listened in on your therapy sessions, and we've had our eye in you forever.  You need to be female. I know you feel incomplete.   I heard you say one day that you fantasize about being Angelina Jolie and Jessica Biel."

Lund blushed in front of the Quicks.  Joan reached over and out a reassuring hand on his knee, "It's okay, dear.  If I was interested in a new body, I'd want to look like Jessica Biel too." She chuckled, and Lund followed suit.  Chuck smiled.

Lund steepled his fingers and sat back on the couch. "You do realize that if I were to agree to this that I would be giving up all my rights?  I would be at your mercy, you could do pretty much whatever you wanted to me and I'd have no recourse as a child.  You're asking me to trust the next 8 years of my life to the Quicks, and 20 years of my life to you, knowing full well that you could turn me into a newt or erase all my faked paperwork and put me out on the streets with no identity what so ever.  How could I agree to something like that?  If you've watched my therapy sessions, then you know I am not stupid enough to just do that."

Chuck Quick shot Roger a look that, in Lund's perception of it, said "I told you so."

Roger got closer to Lund, "Lund, I really don't have any guarantees to offer.  If we leave any paper trail at all that makes promises about how you will be treated in your new identity, and it's guaranteed to you as you are now, then people can find out.  People can find out anything in this information age, and if you do choose to go through life like as a female celebrity then you don't want this getting out.  So, what can I offer you besides promises?"

Lund thought a moment.  "What did the lady who has signed up to be Jake ask for?"

Chuck shot Roger another look.

"Honestly, your future big brother was very enthusiastic about it, and she was a bit younger than you at the start.  She just jumped right in with both feet, but that's the kind of personality we wanted: daring, bold, slightly rambunctious and a little bit of a hellraiser.  We wanted the sister to be wise, mature, thoughtful and careful.  So, your questions are just the kind of thing we'd want from our girl, but they are harder to answer."

Lund contemplated the situation for a minute.  "Okay, Chuck, have you planted the birth certificate of my new identity yet?"

Chuck shook his head, "No, I'm working on it.  I have it created, and I'm just waiting for a contact I have in NY to insert it into the records in Nassau County.  But I have the certificate itself, and I have a social security number established based on the that certificate."

"Okay, here's what we're going to do.  Roger, are you very serious about me as a candidate?"

"Yes.  You're very level-headed, just unhappy."

"For me to sign the contract, you're going to have to give me $20,000, the birth certificate and the social security card

The room fell quiet.

"And you're going to have to alter the certificate to name me as my future identity's father."

Chuck and Joan exchanged looks and then they both looked at Roger.

Lund continued, "With my 'daughter's' social security card and birth certificate, I will set her up as co-owner of an account I set up with the $20,000.  I will also leave a will that establishes the account as being hers, and that if she is ever found then she should be remanded to the custody of my father, my great aunt, my uncle  or my cousin. So, if I run away as... What will my name be?"

"Keira"

"If I run away as Keira and am picked up by law enforcement, I can tell them that I was kept my from my birth father, Lund Garrison III.  The $20,000 will be college money for me, or money to help my father raise the grandchild he didn't know he had. If you are as honorable as you say you are, you will not try to interfere. If you do, I doubt all the fake info will hold up as well under the scrutiny of my uncle.  He's a very well-known lawyer in New York."

Chuck Quick's eyes got big for a second, "You're Ted Garrison's nephew?"

Lund nodded.  His uncle had actually sued the government on the behalf of several Middle Eastern-born citizens whose lives had been turned upside down when they were heavily investigated for,  and falsely-accused of, being terrorists or agents of a foreign state.  Normally, those cases are hard to win, but his uncle had done it three time and won each time.  He was good, and he was famous for it.  In Lund's opinion, his uncle was also a huge asshole, but he would never let a family member suffer.  Lund hadn't seen his uncle in years, but if a child claiming to be Lund's birthdaughter showed up needing help, Uncle Ted would fight for her.

There was an exchange of looks between Chuck and Joan, and then they both looked to Roger.

Roger pulsed for a second.  "Lund, that is a lot of money."

Lund leaned forward, "Well, actually, that amount of money wouldn't put me through college, and if my father had to raise me for 8 years that amount would barely cover the expenses of raising a teenager.  But it's enough to show me that you're serious about me, and you can revise the contract to allow NC Talent to take 50% of my earnings plus $1,000 every year so you get it back in the end."

It appeared to Lund that Roger blinked out of existence for just a spilt second.  After that moment, Roger announced, "the proposal of this plan seems to work in 99% of all timelines."

"You can see all future timelines?" Lund raised one eyebrow.

"Being non-corporeal," Joan chimed in for some reason instead of Roger, "Roger and the others can step outside the timeline and see all the possible outcomes based upon any decision that's been made.  We haven't signed the deal yet, or agreed to your idea, but the proposal of your idea does effect all the future choices."

"He can see what will happen if you agree to my idea?"

Roger chimed back in, "Yes, in 72% percent of timelines, we agree to the idea.  Of those 72%, a staggering 99% of them go very well and according to plan."

"And the other 28% where you don't agree?" Lund inquired coolly.

Roger made a sighing sound and flickered, "In those, you only agree to move ahead with no reassurances 5% of the time.  Of that 5%, only 2% are successful."

"Okay, and the remaining 95% of the 28% where I don't agree?"

Roger's voice quavered slightly, "We use our 2nd choice person, with a potential success rate of 30%."

Lund looked amused, but tried to hide it, "So, you had to know that I'd propose my idea when you brought me here, right?"

Chuck looked at Lund, nodded a bit and smiled, "Roger saw a 62% chance that you'd come up with some sort of idea like that, but we were praying on the 38%."

Lund smiled back at Chuck, "I'm guessing you don't play the odds in Vegas much."
Chapter 1 of the next TG story I told myself I wasn't going to write...

Sorry, if there are any boo-boo's on this one - I wrote the first part on my old iPhone, then another part on my BlackBerry, and then the next part on the iPhone and then the last part on the BlackBerry. I put all the parts together and spell-checked it, but that doesn't mean there might not be some continuity concerns or grammatical errors.
